Biography

Summer March is a junior at Wayne State University and is an honor student majoring in early childhood education. Summer transferred from Oakland Community College where she graduated summa cum laude with an associate's degree in Liberal Arts. Summer has been employed as a child care supervisor and a preschool teacher in the Troy School District for 5 years. After she receives her bachelor's in early childhood, Summer plans on attending the Wayne State Law school to obtain a career in family law and civil rights. Summer is a member of Wayne State's Black Student Union and is also a member of Wayne State's Sync Detroit organization which helps entrepreneurs promote their business while giving back to the community. This past February, Summer formalized a panel discussion titled #MoreThanAHashtag with the Southfield Police Chief Eric Hawkins and Oakland Community College students to bridge the gap and eliminate fears between the police and the community. She plans to continue this event with staff and students at Wayne State University. Summer loves to volunteer with the Meldrum Soup Kitchen in Detroit, Haven Domestic Violence Shelter in Pontiac, and is the Sunday school preschool teacher at her church, Citadel of Praise. In 2016, Summer was crowned Miss Michigan through the MAC pageants organization for her dedication to community service and high academics. This accomplishment inspired Summer to open her own nonprofit titled the Lovely Princess and Queen organization, where she mentors young girls and women with important life skills such as public speaking and confidence. Her organization also encourages young girls to engage in competitive educational fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Summer March is proud to be a warrior and honored to represent Wayne State on the 2018 homecoming court.
